The Souk Waqif in downtown Doha has many alley ways and mysterious back areas. When you go to this place you feel like you're really in the Middle East, so it's a highly recommended destination for people and kokeshis alike! The kokeshi is in one of the photos. Can you find it?

ReplyDeleteAlison, I'm glad you're enjoying the blog and it's good to hear that there's a kokeshi enthusiast out in Seattle. If you can I would highly recommend making the trip to Tohoku and visiting the traditional kokeshi makers and museums. Of course Gunma is the heart of the modern kokeshis, and it's easy to get there from Tokyo. I'm sure you would be delighted with the annual modern kokeshi convention each January -- that's where you get to see the latest stunning creative kokeshis.
